This 3 Days Akagera Safari takes you to the Akagera National Park which covers 1200 km² in Eastern Rwanda, along the Tanzania border. It was founded in 1934 to protect animals and vegetation in three eco regions: Savannah, mountain and swamp. The park is named for Kagera River which flows along its eastern boundary feeding into several lakes the largest of which is Lake Ihema. The complex system of the lakes and linking papyrus swamps makes up over 1/3 of the park and is the largest protected wetland in central Africa.

Day 1 :» Kanombe Airport – Akagera National Park.

Upon your arrival at Kanombe airport in Kigali move to the east of the country to Akagera National Park which borders the stunning rising and falling plains, concrete broad-leafed forests and the brighter acacia woods that characterise its favourable nature to animals and visitors. Participate in an evening game drive to spot mammals like Giraffes, Buffaloes, Elephants, Crocodiles, Hippos Spotted Hyenas and masses of birds. Dinner and overnight at Akagera Game Lodge. Meal plan: Half-Board.

Day 2 :» Dawn game drive in Akagera National Park.

Dawn game drive that will expose you to more animal species that you missed the earlier evening. Return to lodge for refreshment, breakfast and lunch and then after enjoy an afternoon thrilling boat cruise on Lake Ihema during which you will reach the Rwanda crowds of hippos and crocodiles plus many water birds and a variety of Reptiles. Return to lodge for dinner and overnight. Meal plan: Full-Board.

Day 3 :» Akagera National Park – Kigali.

Take breakfast, relax, then have a simple tour of Kigali City to the genocide memorial centre, Karisoke gorilla research centre before being driven to Kigali International Airport for your departure flight or next destination like Uganda.
